Micro-Cutting
by SYNOVA - Microjet® Process

In this system the laser-beam is guided to the work-piece by total internal reflection in a water-jet, which acts as a variable length fluid optical waveguide.

This combination of laser-beam and water-beam represents a revolutionary invention for the microtechnology. It is not in competition with the existing Laser - Microtechnology but is its highly efficient complement. It maintains the advantages of the traditional YAG-Laser, its high speed, precision and flexibility, but eliminates evident disadvantages, especially by adding the cooling water-jet to the laser-beam thus eliminating the thermal stress on the processed material and cleaning the cutting edges of debris.

  • Especially materials workable only with difficulties, like Titanium and Nitinol, will maintain their chemical structure because of the advantages of the Micro-jet system.
  • Molten mass and debris is constantly expelled by the waterjet. This means that normally no further post-processing is necessary.
  • The variable length - waterjet permits a larger working-distance between focus und work-piece thus allowing to process also material with uneven surface and to achieve entirely parallel cutting edges.

These very unique system-characteristics create its suitability for many applications in microtechnology for which the traditional YAG-Laser is much less qualified.

Workable Materials:

All metals, particularly hard metals, except highly reflective materials.
